Question: Some people think young people should follow the traditions of their society. Others think that they should be free to behave as individuals. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

解讀：這個(gè)題目的意思是說有些人認(rèn)為年輕人應(yīng)該遵循傳統(tǒng)，而其他人認(rèn)為他們應(yīng)該按照自己的意愿去生活，問考生是否同意。首先，對(duì)于眾多的雅思考生而言，應(yīng)該明確社會(huì)傳統(tǒng)包含什么內(nèi)容。很多考生看到這個(gè)詞，首先腦子里面就反應(yīng)一些traditional virtues民族的傳統(tǒng)美德，比如說尊老愛幼，孝敬父母等等。當(dāng)然，這些確實(shí)是傳統(tǒng)的精華所在。但是，考生更需要去考慮的是語言的實(shí)用性。這些傳統(tǒng)的內(nèi)容的難度非常的大，如果考生用英文描述的話可能語言上會(huì)遇到較多的生詞，或者是內(nèi)容上無法展開。所以，考生們可以選擇更廣泛的角度來去回答這個(gè)題目。

1^st argument:

Against the backdrop of increasing globalization pervading the entire world, cultural homogenization is starting to become an inevitable trend. Arguments over whether such development is positive or negative in general aside, it is undeniable that many obscure, lesser-known cultures and traditions are either marginalized and pushed to the brink of disappearance or subdued by the more dominant, appealing western cultures. As such, it is more important than ever for each country to assert its national and cultural identity by propagating its own unique set of distinguishing cultural characteristics. Besides, many traditional forms of culture encapsulate the nation’s history and customs that teenagers are evading in their academic learning. What students have failed to master in the boring, sleep-inducing/hypnotic lectures can be made up by the more interesting means of enjoying some traditional performances, dramas, and music.

2^nd argument:

Some traditions created thousands of years ago that have been successfully preserved and passed down for countless generations happen for a reason, which is largely the result of universal applicability of such traditions across different times of the long history. Despite the rapid social transformations in modern world, many of these traditions are still considered entirely valid, if not superior. Taking perspectives towards marriage for example, the older generation apparently attaches a great deal of importance to the match of social, financial, and family status of the two families of the new couple. By contrast, modern young adults are much less restrained by such concerns when they fall in love with each other. To them, lifelong commitment to marriage does not require any preconditions to justify their being together. It is all about sparkle and mutual attraction.

3^rd argument:

Granted, traditional values are still playing an important role in contemporary society. However, a closer parallel examination of the traditions and social development reveals that some of the traditions are no longer fit for, if not in direct contrary to, what is required today. Healthy lifestyles, such as eating healthful foods and working out in gym regularly, are largely abandoned by the youths, for their hectic daily schedule and constant need to work overtime give them no choices. The idea of living in a thrifty fashion and saving money in the bank is no longer applicable, considering the skyrocketing real estate price and disappointingly low average wage caused by increasingly fierce competition.

整篇文章分為了三個(gè)部分，從兩個(gè)方面來證明應(yīng)該保留傳統(tǒng)，而又從另一個(gè)方面去說明不應(yīng)該保留傳統(tǒng)。首先，在全球化席卷世界的背景下，文化的統(tǒng)一性已經(jīng)開始慢慢的成為了一種不可避免的趨勢(shì)。先不去談?wù)撨@樣的一種發(fā)展是積極還是消極的，不可否認(rèn)的事實(shí)是一些非主流的，不太被人所了解的文化和習(xí)俗要么已經(jīng)被邊緣化了，被推向了滅絕的地步，要么已經(jīng)受到了來自于外來的，更主流的文化的強(qiáng)烈沖擊。因此，在這樣的一個(gè)背景下，比任何時(shí)期都更加重要的是每個(gè)能夠通過自身文化的特點(diǎn)從而突出自己的和文化身份。同時(shí)，很多的文化形式包含了一個(gè)的歷史和習(xí)俗，而這些內(nèi)容對(duì)于很多的年輕人來說是無法在他們的課堂中所學(xué)到的。這些內(nèi)容如果放在課堂上，可能會(huì)非常的無聊，甚至說催眠，而通過這些傳統(tǒng)的藝術(shù)形式，比如說表演，戲劇，或者是音樂，則更能很好的表現(xiàn)出來，讓學(xué)生和孩子們從中受益。第二個(gè)方面，社會(huì)傳統(tǒng)已經(jīng)存在了幾千年的時(shí)間。之所以能夠延續(xù)這么長(zhǎng)的時(shí)間，主要是因?yàn)檫@些傳統(tǒng)具有跨越不同時(shí)代的適用性。盡管現(xiàn)今社會(huì)經(jīng)歷的很大的變化，這些傳統(tǒng)依然是被認(rèn)為是很有借鑒價(jià)值的。比如說，現(xiàn)今社會(huì)對(duì)待婚姻的態(tài)度，老一輩人在對(duì)待婚姻上非常重視門當(dāng)戶對(duì)的概念。他們認(rèn)為兩個(gè)家庭必須要家庭地位、經(jīng)濟(jì)實(shí)力等等要完全一致才可以。而相比而言，現(xiàn)在的年輕人在戀愛的時(shí)候并沒有這樣或者那樣的約束。在他們看來，他們之間在一起并不需要什么樣的前提條件。這只不過是他們之間的感覺和相互吸引。反方的論點(diǎn)是盡管說傳統(tǒng)價(jià)值扮演了一個(gè)很重要的角色，但是仔細(xì)分析發(fā)現(xiàn)，有些傳統(tǒng)已經(jīng)并不適用于現(xiàn)今社會(huì)，甚至與現(xiàn)今社會(huì)相違背。比如說，健康的生活方式，比如說吃健康的食物，在健身房健身，已經(jīng)被年輕人所拋棄。因?yàn)樗麄兠β档墓ぷ鲿r(shí)間表和經(jīng)常性的加班讓他們毫無選擇，所以，過一種節(jié)儉的生活方式，把錢存到銀行里已經(jīng)并不適用于現(xiàn)今社會(huì)了，如果我們把高額的房?jī)r(jià)和非常低的收入的因素考慮在內(nèi)的話。
